No more than 2 weeks after boiling the Experimental IPA, I was back in the kitchen, after finding an extract recipe online, courtesy of Brewers Friend, which linked back to Homebrew Talk Forums. This was a beer I first discovered in a trip to the Indiana, May 2017. I stopped by 3 Floyds Brewing Company in Munster, IN and was impressed with the entire experience; beer, food, atmosphere. This recipe received some good reviews and it’s the first recipe in which I am not using a kit.

This batch of home brew was my third attempt and from the limited reviews I have received, it’s better than the previous batches. That’s good to know as it appears I am still doing something correct that my friends and co-workers are still asking to have bottles of my home brew.

I’ve been after a juicer beer since I started homebrew and have come up short in my first two offerings. While an all Mosaic beer might have been the wrong way to go, I felt I had a recipe for a juicy and hoppy IPA. Still, this was a good beer, but did learn a few things about brewing with Citra hops.

Tasting Notes

Here we go…didn’t get the big bubbles. Just fine bubbles! Perfect carb. 1 finger head and spotty lacing. Better notes as it warms. get some melon, pineapple and toasted grain aromas. No bubble gum here. Toasted malt flavor up front with easy hops. The hops build later and last a long time. Hint of melon and citrus flavors but that all the fruit I’m getting. Like the carb feel, it’s on par and just hits the medium bodied feel. Overall it’s got more hops than your last beer I like that they linger a long time just like Pliny. It’s got more body and flavor as it sits here in my glass. My honest opinion, it’s definitely better than your last! Yeah not juicy but balanced throughout with bold hops. I’m enjoying it.
