Tasting Notes
Appearance
Golden, clear — this is a West Coast IPA not a hazy, the clarity showing off the warm hop-gold color without obstruction. White head, good retention. Looks confident and clean in the glass or the can.
Aroma
Bold grapefruit from the start — your own first impression, and it's exactly right. The traditional Citra announces itself immediately with that irreplaceable orange-grapefruit brightness. Then the American Noble Citra comes in behind it with a more delicate floral and tropical dimension — lychee-adjacent, softer, lifting the whole aroma into something more complex than a single Citra addition produces. Floral, citrus, tropical — the Japanese drinker's translation captures all three layers accurately.
Palate
Light body, clean and crispy. The grapefruit and citrus carry through the middle cleanly, the dual-Citra approach delivering both the juicy fruit intensity and the floral complexity without either overpowering the other. At 45 IBU the bitterness is present and West Coast in character — firm but not aggressive, building toward a clean citrus-bitter finish. Clean and crisp as your own note confirms, the malt staying completely transparent behind the hop showcase.
Finish
Dry, citrus-bitter, and clean — bitterness like citrus peel, as the Japanese drinker describes it perfectly. The grapefruit fades into a lingering floral Citra quality from the Noble expression, the finish resolving cleanly and making the next sip completely automatic decision.
The Verdict
What a great single hop beer! A single-hop showcase that earns the exclamation marks. American Noble Citra and traditional Citra dosed throughout the process — bold grapefruit up front, floral complexity underneath, clean and crisp from pour to finish.
