Tasting Notes
Appearance
Pale golden, brilliantly clear with fine persistent carbonation and a white head. Luminous and clean — German pilsner clarity from a Bend, Oregon brewery at the foot of the Cascades.
Aroma
Biscuity malt warmth opens first, then the Czech Saaz and Oregon Sterling arrive together — spicy herbal character from the Saaz, a hint of lemon and citrus brightness from the Sterling that lifts the whole nose above what a Saaz-only pilsner produces. Surprising complexity that opens up the longer you sit with it.
Palate
Clean, crisp, and soft with the biscuity malt carrying through the middle. The Saaz and Sterling bitterness builds firmly on the back half — assertive at 35 IBU, more forward than most craft pilsners, exactly what a stern grandfather's approval looks like in beer form.
Finish
Dry, clean, and moderately bitter. Herbal Saaz and Sterling lemon linger together, resolving completely and refreshingly. Medium length — made for Crater Lake rims and campfire check-ins.
The Verdict
Crux Fermentation Project's Bend, Oregon pilsner — Czech Saaz and local Oregon Sterling on a clean German pilsner base, 5.2% ABV, 35 IBU, and a biscuity complexity that opens up the longer you sit with it. Your stern grandfather approves. The Crater Lake Lodge concession stand agrees.
