Tasting Notes
Appearance
Pale straw, brilliantly clear with lively carbonation. Pours with a thin, bright white head that settles quickly but leaves a clean ring on the glass.
Aroma
Motueka leads immediately — lime zest and lemongrass up front, with a softer tropical note underneath that reads as passionfruit or ripe melon. The malt stays completely out of the way, just a faint clean grain in the background. Exactly what you want from the style.
Palate
Light-bodied and crisp. The malt is neutral and slightly grainy in the best adjunct-lager tradition — this isn't trying to be a craft malt showcase. The citrus character from the Motueka comes through mid-palate as a gentle lemon-lime brightness without ever tipping into bitterness.
Finish
Dry and clean with a lingering citrus lift — that lime-zest quality from the Motueka lingers just long enough to remind you it's there before it disappears cleanly. No residual sweetness, no harsh bitterness. Finish is short and refreshing, which makes the next sip inevitable.
The Verdict
Paso Robles summers are brutal, and a 4.8% sessionable lager with a New Zealand hop twist plays well against the area's wine country crowd — approachable enough for the uninitiated, interesting enough for the craft beer faithful. It'd sit nicely alongside something grilled off the smoker, too.
