Tasting Notes
Appearance
Medium golden, brilliantly clear with fine lively carbonation and a thin white head. Looks exactly like the continental European lager tradition it descends from — clean, bright, and inviting in any glass, but best appreciated in a cold bottle with a view of the Caribbean Sea.
Aroma
Clean grain and light malt sweetness lead — that's the Canadian Pilsner malt — with a gentle herbal and floral note from the German hop blend sitting underneath. Nothing aggressive, nothing complex. Just a clean, fresh lager nose that smells like it belongs somewhere warm and humid.Fuller-bodied than most regional lagers — Belize Brewing specifically describes it as full-bodied, and the lengthy lagering process bears that out. The malt is clean and slightly sweet through the middle, the German hops providing a gentle herbal bitterness at 18 IBU that's there to balance rather than assert.
Palate
Clean, dry, and short — the lagering process delivering the crisp, complete finish that the style demands. No residual sweetness, no harshness, just a refreshing clean close. Best enjoyed cold and quickly on a hot day.
Finish
Belikin is the road to the east, the Maya temple on the label, the cold bottle at the Lazy Lizard on Caye Corker. It's a well-made continental lager that has been delivering the same reliable experience since 1971, and a Gold Award winner that proves the crowd in Belize has always known what they're doing. Some beers are inseparable from their place. Belikin is Belize in a bottle.
