Tasting Notes
Appearance
Hazy golden — the unfiltered delivery giving it a natural, living cloudiness that filtered pale ales don't have. Soft white head. Looks organic in the best sense: alive, unprocessed, exactly what it says it is.
Aroma
Pineapple hop character leads — tropical and soft rather than assertive, a gentle fruit quality that Aslan describes as melding beautifully with the rye. Behind it, the rye malt adds a slightly spicy, minty character that's distinctly more complex than a barley-only pale ale nose. Clean grain sweetness throughout from the organic malt bill. The whole aroma is quiet and considered — mild yet complex lands precisely here.
Palate
Light to medium body, smooth from the unfiltered grain character and soft from the 18 IBU hop presence. The pineapple and tropical hop character carries through the middle alongside the rye's spicy-minty contribution — the two flavors melding as Aslan promises, neither overpowering the other. This is a pale ale that tastes like its ingredients rather than like a hop showcase or a malt showcase. The organic grain bill gives the palate a freshness and a wholeness that processed beers lose in filtration.
Finish
Short, clean, and refreshing — the low IBU and unfiltered character resolving gently rather than with a hop-assertive close. The rye spice lingers briefly, the pineapple fading ahead of it, leaving a clean organic grain finish that makes the next sip as natural as the next wave.
The Verdict
Aslan Brewing's organic Pacific Ale flagship — rye malt, pineapple hops, unfiltered, farm to glass, 5.5% ABV. Mild yet complex. Same name, better beer, as the taproom regulars put it. From Bellingham with precision.
