Tasting Notes
Appearance
Golden to deep amber, clear with a persistent white head and solid lacing. The Marris Otter malt gives this slightly more color depth than a standard 2-Row IPA — there's a warm, biscuity glow in the glass that hints at the malt complexity underneath.
Aroma
Mosaic and Citra lead the nose with tropical fruit, orange, grapefruit, and mango — bright, expressive, and immediately inviting. Then the Strata comes in underneath with passionfruit and a dank, earthy quality that shifts the whole aroma profile into more complex territory. Reviewers call it a nice nose, and the Strata is why — it adds a layer that citrus-only hop bills simply can't deliver. The Marris Otter biscuit malt sits quietly in the background, grounding everything.
Palate
Medium-full body, well-supported by the Marris Otter malt backbone. The biscuity malt richness comes through mid-palate, giving the hop bitterness something real to push against. At 75 IBU this is assertive — tropical fruit and citrus from the Mosaic and Citra up front, the Strata dankness and passionfruit building through the middle. The Strata earthy quality gives the palate a funky, resinous depth that keeps it from going purely one-dimensional.
Finish
Long, funky, and dank nails the Strata character perfectly. The passionfruit and cannabis-adjacent dankness from the Strata linger well after the sip, with the Mosaic tropical fruit fading behind it and the Citra citrus disappearing first. 75 IBU bitterness persists cleanly without astringency. A finish that earns its reputation and keeps you coming back.
The Verdict
If you've ever sat on the 405 in Los Angeles traffic — and if you've been to Southern California, you have — you understand the name. This is a beer built for the moment you finally get off the freeway and into the taproom.. Worth every mile of the drive to Torrance.
