Tasting Notes
Appearance
Pale golden, brilliantly clear with fine carbonation and a white head. Looks exactly like what it is — an American lager from a San Francisco brewery that knew its audience and respected them. Clean, bright, and completely unpretentious in the glass.
Aroma
Light malt leads — clean grain sweetness, subtle and warm, the kind of malt character that invites rather than demands. The soft floral hop note the brewery describes is gentle and present — not assertive, not complex, just enough to signal that someone who cared about hops made this beer. Fresh and approachable throughout.
Palate
Light to medium body, crisp and smooth — exactly as drinkers consistently describe. The light malt sweetness one drinker calls out carries through the middle with the floral hop character providing a gentle counterpoint. Nothing aggressive, nothing requiring analysis. Just a clean, well-made American lager delivering on its promise at 4.4% ABV.
Finish
Creamy and satisfying — 21st Amendment's own descriptor, and accurate. The finish is slightly rounder and longer than a standard adjunct lager, the malt sweetness resolving softly rather than dropping off immediately. Clean, complete, and repeatable.
The Verdict
21st Amendment Brewery closed in 2026, and Amendment Lager is the beer that carried their name to the end — a clean, honest American lager built for every occasion, from the tailgate to the nightcap. Light, crisp, smooth, and gone. Tradition never tasted so good. Cheers.
